3144180 - Nonconsecutive numbering of sales order documents - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

  • Number range gaps can be found within sales order document numbering.
  • Sales orders are missing from the system.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Cause

The numbering assignment for sales documents is controlled by the number range object RV_BELEG. This number range object uses parallel buffering with a buffer size of 1. In case of internal number assignment, the numbers are assigned in ascending order. This ordering has no gaps unless a ROLLBACK occurs during the save processing of a newly created sales document, after the document number has already been assigned. In this case the sales order is never really saved but the chronological order numbering is still interrupted.

Resolution

  1. Check the error logs on the system.
  2. If the rollback occurs during the update task, the document numbers are lost forever. Otherwise, the numbers in question will be assigned at a later time. This is the standard system behavior.
  3. If further confirmation is required, please raise a customer case with SAP.
