3148641 - How the remaining capacity requirement and remaining duration in a rescheduling of an operation will be calculated after confirmation

Symptom

After confirmation/partial confirmation has been made for an operation of the production order, the remaining capacity requirement and remaining duration in a rescheduling (such as setup time and processing time) will be re-calculated.
However, the values have not changed as you expected and you want to figure out the logic of the calculation.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create and release a production order.
  2. Maintain the capacity and scheduling formula in the corresponding work center and check the initial values of the capacity requirement and scheduling duration of a certain operation.
  3. Do confirmation/partial confirmation for the operation.
  4. Reschedule the order and check the new values of the capacity requirement and scheduling duration.

Cause

The parameter "Control Capacity Reduction" under the Capacities tab of the work center controls how the calculation will be carried out.

As you can see from the F1 help of the parameter, there are 4 options:

1. Formula-Related
The values will be re-calculated only according to the formula and have nothing to do with the confirmed quantity and time. There are two points that need your special attention. One is that the formula of the capacity and scheduling may be different and they will be calculated respectively. The other one is that if the formula is related to quantity, it is the remaining quantity and not the operation quantity that is taken into account after the confirmation.
2. Completely for Partial Confirmation:
The remaining requirement / remaining duration is reduced completely (to zero) when there is a partial confirmation.
3. Completely for Final Confirmation:
The remaining requirement / remaining duration is reduced completely (to zero) when there is a final confirmation. Just as the partial confirmation.
4. Proportional to Service
Both the capacity requirement and scheduling duration will be proportional to the initial calculated values of the formulas according to remaining activity time and have nothing to do with the quantity. This is reasonable because once the confirmation has been made, this part of work is considered to be finished so there is no need to consider it in capacity and scheduling.
Please note that in order to make "Proportional to Service" effective, you have to assign the record type group (Setup, Processing or Teardown) to the right activity of the operation under the Costing tab of the work center:

Resolution

In conclusion, you need maintain parameter "Control Capacity Reduction", the formulas, the confirmed quantities and the the confirmed activities altogether according to your business needs to get the expected results.
