3157073 - java.net.UnknownHostException error with random host reported in installer and other server logs

Symptom

Both Installer logs (setupengine.log) and BI server process logs (in logging folder eg: APS, AJS, Connectionserver etc.) report an error similar to below error -   

  • java.net.UnknownHostException: <A_RANDOM_LONG_HOSTNAME>: Name or service not known
  • EXAMPLE:
    java.net.UnknownHostException: FAL0HAHGWEAMAHALOCXLYYRAFBWEBII: Name or service not known
    at java.net.Inet4AddressImpl.lookupAllHostAddr(Native Method)
    at java.net.InetAddress$3.lookupAllHostAddr(InetAddress.java:977)
    at java.net.InetAddress.getAddressesFromNameService(InetAddress.java:1372)
    at java.net.InetAddress.getAllByName0(InetAddress.java:1325)
    at java.net.InetAddress.getAllByName(InetAddress.java:1241)
    at java.net.InetAddress.getAllByName(InetAddress.java:1175)
    at java.net.InetAddress.getByName(InetAddress.java:1125)
  • The random hostname is not related to the actual host itself or in hosts file or in network itself
