Is there a way to have an "OR" operator between search criteria in the advanced search?
I'd like to have attribute1 contains 'xxx' OR attribute2 contains 'xyz'.

Yes, but this is only possible in the advanced search if you search multiple values in the same attribute. Just type in the first search word and search for it. Afterwards, just type in the other key word and add it to the search.
If you want to get information from two different attributes, only the "AND" operator is possible. If you want to separate the results, you'll have to create and save 2 different smart folders for the attributes.
