3160885 - What happens if I remove a linked dictionary item and recreate it again?

Symptom

I would like to clean up our Dictionary and remove many dictionary items. If I delete an item, the link to the element in the model will be also removed. Would it be restored if I recreate that dictionary item with the same name? Would the element from my model be linked again based on the name?

Resolution

No. The dictionary link is based on a unique ID. You can have even several dictionary items with the same name.

If you remove an already linked dictionary item, the linked element will lose the link to the dictionary. If you create a new item afterwards, you would need to link it manually. To link it, open a diagram, select the element that lost the link and click on the '+' symbol. The system will look up if the name of the element matches with an existing dictionary item, and you can reuse it there.
