3161402 - Behavior when a user is assigned to two or more audience groups

Symptom

What do the users see if they are assigned to multiple audience groups?

Resolution

The following is the logic used to define the active audience for a user who belongs to two or more Audience Groups:

  • If the user belongs to 0 audiences, then the active audience is General Audience
  • If the user belongs to a single audience, then it is used as the active audience
  • If the user recently used/switched to an audience and still belongs to that audience, then it is used as the active audience
  • If the user belongs to the default group, that is also defined as an audience, then this is used as the active audience
  • If none of the above matches the case, then the first audience in the list which is not a General Audience will be used

Please note that the checks are done in the same order, meaning that the first criteria that matches will be applied.

Additionally, users who are members of more than one audience can switch to the General audience if this option is not disabled for all audiences to which they belong.
