3161535 - SAP Solution Manager connection failed, credentials are incorrect

Symptom

While trying to connect to SAP Solution Manager, I can see the following error message: 'Connection failed (Credentials are incorrect)'. The user is not locked, and the password is correct. 

Resolution

The error message comes in following cases:

  • When at least one of the three entries 'Client', 'User' or 'Password' are not correctly stored. You could independently test two of those three - 'User' or 'Password'. Take the link from 'URL of the SAP Solution Manager instance' (in the SAP Solution Manager Connector configuration) and put it just normal into the address bar of your browser. If a connection to your SAP Solution Manager instance via browser is possible, you will be asked for the credentials.
  • SAP Solution Manager Server requires Single-Sign-On as authentication method. Since the connector can only authenticate using credentials (username/password) the connection is not being successful. Please let it check and if it is the case, ask how to avoid SSO authentication. It could be that you may change the authentication method, use a dedicated link (for 'URL of the SAP Solution Manager instance') or add some parameters to the given link.
