3161565 - External Link to Image in SharePoint does not work

Symptom

I want add photos to my processes with 'Link to external image' from the documentation attribute in Editor, but the images are inserted with a broken link. The images are located on SharePoint.

Resolution

The picture dummy (the broken icon) shows up if we cannot open the image. If your links contain invalid characters (e.g. ':' and ',') we are not able to resolve these. The parameter ':i:' (which is defining sharing rights) should be removed from the link. Open your link in browser, click right mouse button and copy the image address. This link can be resolved and you are able to paste it in the documentation editor.

If you try to copy a link from Sharepoint, which contains e.g. '/:x:/r/', you should consider to reconnect your Microsoft account:

  • Go to 'Manage your account', then click on the 'Work or school' option on the left
  • If there was no colored Windows icon, they had to click on the '+ Connect' option and register, then re-start.
  • If there was a colored Windows icon with their (or in some cases, someone else's) email address, they had to click that icon, then 'Disconnect', restart their machine and click on the +Connect to relink their profile with the device account settings. We discovered a very large number of devices had the name of the person who had set up the machine as the 'account' on the machine

Long term solution would be to contact the support of Microsoft Sharepoint regarding the permissions handling.
