3168312 - Configure SSL/TLS for Server-based connection to Sybase ASE - Data Services

Symptom

TLS/SSL communication is a common secure method of accessing SAP Sybase ASE. It is more secure than user name and password authentication.

For TLS/SSL communication to connect to SAP Sybase ASE, you need to enable SSL during configuration of an SAP Sybase ASE datastore in Data Services. When you use TLS/SSL authentication, consider the following information:

  • Only applicable for Server-based (DSN-less) connections.
  • TLS/SSL protocol are enabled in both Sybase Client used by Data Services and Sybase Server.
  • Requires a CA certificate, which comes from your DBA. This is also the same certificate that is used on the Sybase ASE server side.

Note: TLS/SSL communication for Server-based connection is supported in SAP Data Services version 4.3 SP00. It is only certified for Sybase ASE server 15.7 and 16 SP4.

TLS/SSL protocols should be enabled on both the client and server side before you can utilize the secure method for connecting to your SAP Sybase ASE data.

Included in this Knowledge Base Article (KBA) are instructions for creating a TLS/SSL CA certificate and how to enable TLS/SSL protocol on the client and server side.

Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.
