Symptom
According to the accounting standards, the balance sheet and income statement realize the articulation relationship mainly through the item "undistributed profit". The period ending balance of "undistributed profit" in balance sheet - the period beginning balance of "undistributed profit" in balance sheet = the current period total of "net profit" in income statement.
However, the articulation relationship is now uneven in the app "Balance Sheet/Income Statement" or app "Balance Sheet / Income Statement - China".
Environment
- SAP S/4HANA Cloud
Resolution
- Open the app "Balance Sheet/Income Statement" or app "Balance Sheet / Income Statement - China" and find the field Unassigned Accounts. Export these accounts under the tab Unassigned Accounts to spreadsheet (for example, Microsoft Excel), filter with “Functional Area”, and then do the following checks first:
- Check whether the sum of manufacturing expense accounts (G/L accounts with functional area “manufacturing”) is 0. If it is not 0, carry forward to 0.
Please refer to KBA 3042992 to check whether production accounts are balanced or not. - Check whether there are sales expenses, management expenses and R&D expenses (G/L accounts with functional areas “sales/management/R&D”) in the unassigned accounts. If there are, the sum of balance should be 0. If the sum is not 0, assign them to FSV nodes.
- Check whether the sum of manufacturing expense accounts (G/L accounts with functional area “manufacturing”) is 0. If it is not 0, carry forward to 0.
- Open the app "Manage Global Hierarchies" and open the financial statement version for Balance Sheet and Income Statement that you have defined for your company, double check whether there are any unreasonable configurations, for example, P&L accounts are assigned under FSV nodes in Balance Sheet; only Dr. or Cr. Indicator is selected for certain G/L accounts, but actually both debit and credit postings exist.
