3170041 - Parsing error when running an XML feed URL - Recruiting Marketing

Symptom

When attempting to run an XML Feed URL, instead of the full feed running there is a parsing error appearing.

Note there is a different error when running the feed in different browsers. Firefox will run the feed and display the error.
In Chrome & Edge, the feed will run until the job that triggers the error and then stops.

Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental

Environment

Cause

The error being generated is due to having improper characters in the job description in one or more of your jobs in the XML feed.
The most common characters that cause these issues are using non-standard bullet points or having emojis in the description. Some examples below:

Resolution

The best way to discover the problem job is to open the feed URL with the Chrome or Edge browser so that the feed will run until it errors.  To find the error, scroll down to the very bottom of the page and search for the very last URL or Job ID shown.

If you use the Job ID, search for it and find the job page to check it for bad characters/emojis

Once the issue is identified, it will need to be corrected/removed by editing the external job description within Recruiting Management (RCM).  After the change has been saved, verify that it has been removed on the career site job page.

If so, give it time to sync with the RMK feed servers (generally 5-15 minutes) and you can attempt to run the feed again.  If the feed errors again, there are one or more jobs with the same issue and the resolution steps will need to be repeated.
