3179925 - Infected with 11 in ptn__setup_pdeslookupopt() may occur on a partitioned table - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • ASE errorlog reports "Current process infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)" at address ptn__setup_pdeslookupopt
  • When a client is inserting a row into a partitioned table and another client is running alter table drop partition command on the same table at the same time
  • The infected user task held the Pdes Chain Spinlock, so ASE automatically shuts down
  • Errorlog entries include:

    Current process (0xXXXXXXXX) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
    Address 0x0x0000000001af0cf2 (ptn__setup_pdeslookupopt+0x2b2) ...
    ...

    Spinlock Pdes Chain Spinlocks at address 0x0000000145808e80 owned by <kpid number>
  • The error may be accompanied by a stacktrace referencing the functions:

    ptn__setup_pdeslookupopt
    ptn__get_pdes
    ptn_rowcopy
    srch_get_idxptn
    dol_insert
    ins_insert
    insert_all
