3192210 - Logon to SAC does not work and a blank page is opened in browser when using SAC add-in in Excel desktop

Symptom

The user is using SAC add-in for Office in Excel desktop.

When trying to logon to SAC, the logon does not work and a blank page in domain hcs.cloud.sap opens in browser.

The logon works just fine when using the SAC add-in for Office in Excel online, using browsers like Chrome or Edge.

A VPN is being used in user's machine and the logon works fine in Excel desktop when VPN is disabled.

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Office

Cause

The issue might be caused by the VPN (e.g. ZScaler) or old version of Excel, where Internet Explorer is used instead of Edge.

or

The user does not have network access to domain hcs.cloud.sap.

Resolution

Try to update Excel desktop to latest version, where Edge will be used automatically.

If an update is not possible, refer to this blog, which explains how to switch to Edge in the old version of Excel desktop via registry setting.

Make sure that the user has network access to the domain hcs.cloud.sap, which is required to use the add-in. If necessary, contact the team responsible for the VPN, to check why the VPN is blocking the access.
