3193250 - ASE upgrade fails saphostctrl/sapdbctrl: BS process no longer found after startup - SAP ASE for Business Suite

Symptom

  • ASE upgrading from ASE157SP130 to ASE16 SP03 PL10 failed with message:

*** ERROR => 'Database live update' failed: BS process no longer found after startup. [sapdbctrl.cp 5115]

  • ASE Software upgrade has been finished successfully. The error happened when running task UPDATE_ASE_POST_CONFIG.

 ...
 UPDATE_ASE_SOFTWARE=already executed
 TASK_NAME=UPDATE_ASE_POST_CONFIG
 UPDATE_ASE_POST_CONFIG=BS process no longer found after startup.

  • Backup server process on OS level  is not there. Restart backup server manually get error:

% startserver -f RUN_<SID>_BS
exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program /sybase/<SID>/ASE-16_0/bin/backupserver because of the following errors:
0509-150 Dependent module libptools_ptr.a(shr_64.o) could not be loaded.
0509-022 Cannot load module libptools_ptr.a(shr_64.o).
0509-026 System error: A file or directory in the path name does not exist.
