3195606 - RepServer Suspends DSI if an alter table runs while update stats is running - SRS

Symptom

  • A DSI went down for a database because the transaction had an alter table (add new column) and update stats was running on all target nodes.

    Message from server: Message: 4956, State 2, Severity 16 -- 'Cannot alter table if REORG command or level 0 scans are active.

  • The update stats were killed on each target
  • Then the DSI's for the targets were resumed.
  • Is this a bug or something that needs to be considered when altering a table?
