3201030 - Unable to create a CAP project from template

Symptom

While trying to create a new CAP project from template, the following pop up appears:

The complete error message says:

{"message":"@sap/cap-project:app generator failed - env.on(error) [ERROR] The added configuration requires @sap/cds 5.9.0 or higher. Please update @sap/cds to the latest version.
