3201077 - Employee Central End Dates Explained

This article aims clarifying the end dates of records added with the same effective date. This logic applies to Job Information, Compensation Information, Position and Organization Information.

Let's work with the following scenario:

Two records are added effective of 1/1/2022. Another record is added effective of 2/1/2022.

When generating a Person and Employment Export, the first two records will get their end dates set to:

• Record "1 of 1": 1/1/2022
• Record "2 of 2": 1/31/2022

And the latest record will get its end date set to 12/31/9999:

As per the current product design, this is expected behavior.

Having two records with the same end date is considered data quality issue, and therefore each record should have an unique end date.

Hence, please make sure to observe that when importing records with the same effective date, also. The order they are listed in the import file dictates which record will get the end date (following the previously shared scenario) on 1/1/2022 and which record will get the end date on 12/31/2022.

Important: 

• Manually maintaining end-date can lead to data inconsistencies and UI errors.
• Please leave the end-date column blank in all EC related import files.
• The system will calculate the correct end-date to use to ensure there are no gaps in the Effective Dated data structure.
