3204460 - What is the impact of disabling step from the Process Variant - Onboarding

Symptom

  • What is the impact of disabling step from the Process Variant, for example, disabling eSignature step will impact inflight candidates?
  • I disabled a step (e.g., eSignature) in the process variant and need to know how this affects candidates already in progress—some seem to be impacted mid‑flow.
  • After I restarted onboarding, candidates disappeared from the Onboarding Dashboard, and I suspect it’s because required steps were deactivated in the variant.
  • When I deactivate specific steps in onboarding/offboarding, in‑flight candidates are affected (tasks skip or stall), and I’m unsure how the workflow handles those cases.
  • Disabling mandatory steps appears to break data defaulting and retrieval for in‑flight candidates—key information no longer populates or is missing for reporting.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding

Resolution

  • It is recommended that before any changes are made to the Process Variant any open tasks for candidates associated with this Process Variant is updated successfully
  • The changes made to the Process Variant will only be assigned to the newly initiated candidates after process variant activation
