3208401 - Memory used reported by free -m larger than 'max memory' value - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • The OS 'free -m' command shows used memory as much higher than what is configured for ASE as 'max memory'
    • In this example, ASE 'max memory was 138240000 2K pages = 270000 MB
    • "allocate max shared memory" is set to 1

  • Swapping is detected affecting the server performance
