Resolution

With the effective date attribute from MDF picklists, you can create different versions of picklist values that will be available in the defined start date.

For example, you want to have a new value that will be effective only after a specific date. For that, you can create a new version of the existing set of values and add the Effective Date, then after creating the new version, insert the new picklist value. The new version will take place when the date defined for the Effective Date is reached and the new picklist will show.

Below is a sample case:

The picklist has 3 values:

A new version with the existing set of values is created with the Effective Date as Aug 1, 2022:

This new version is then modified with a new value:

The current version with the 3 values will be available until May 30, 2022. From Aug 1, 2022 forward, the version with the 4 values will be effective, hence, start to show the new value added.

Notes:

  • In case there are two or more picklist versions which the Effective Date is already effective, the version with the latest Effective Date will be consider.
  • It's not possible to change the Effective Date for the effective picklist to a lower date. The system will prompt you the following error: "The changed record overshadows one or more previous record(s) completely. The new start-date cannot be before mm/dd/yyyy.".
  • Picklists that are configured outside MDF are not effective dated.
  • The option ID of the values that exist in both versions don't change, they remain the same. When a new version is created, for the options that were already added to the previous version of the picklist the option ID remains the same, so the options previously selected in RCM are not lost or affected by the new version creation.
