3211530 - 'Flatten the Hierarchy (keep all levels in one column)' option in Story export

Symptom

The Story export has added a new feature, 'Flatten the Hierarchy (keep all levels in one column)'.

This KBA explains the use of the 'Flatten the Hierarchy (keep all levels in one column)' feature while exporting the Story report.

Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.

Environment

  • SuccessFactors HXM Suite
    • Analytics & Reporting (Ad Hoc, YouCalc, ORD)
      • People Analytics (Analytics Cloud for SF)

Reproducing the Issue

1. Go to Report Center.
2. Create a new Story report with Table component.
3. Export the Table data and the option 'Flatten the Hierarchy (keep all levels in one column)' will be available.

Resolution

The option 'Flatten the Hierarchy (keep all levels in one column)' option is only applicable for Hierarchical data in the data source.

Please refer the below screenshot for example data.

Exporting the data with the option 'Flatten the Hierarchy (keep all levels in one column)' will generate data in a single column as shown below.

Exporting the data without enabling the option 'Flatten the Hierarchy (keep all levels in one column)' will generate data in separate columns, as shown below.
