3213002 - DISK INIT fails on a raw device due to a 5123 error on AIX - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • When you run DISK INIT command on a raw device of logical volume in 4K sector size on AIX, a 5123 error is raised.

    Msg 5123, Level 16, State 1:
    Server 'ASE', Line 1:
    DISK INIT encountered an error while attempting to open/create the physical file for device '<raw device name>'.
    Consult the Adaptive Server error log for more details. For the Cluster Edition, check the error log of each instance.

  • You also fails to build master device on a raw device of logical volume in 4K sector size on AIX by using dataserver command with -b option.

    ...... kernel  basis_dsizecheck: attempt to write page <page number> on device '<raw device name>' failed, system error is: Invalid argument
    ...... kernel  kistartup: Unable to create master device.
