3216743 - Error when shrinking database using ALTER DATABASE with CHECK_ONLY option - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Running "alter database <db name> off  <device name> with check_only" produces the following message:
        
    ALTER DATABASE: segment '21' (ID 21) in database '<db name>' does not have enough free space to receive data that must be moved.
  • Running "alter database <db name> off <device name>" works without issue.
