3216925 - Concurrent add partition execution reports misleading Error 4956 after fix for CR 826149 - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • After the fix provided under SAP CR 826149, concurrent ALTER TABLE ... ADD PARTITION executions would fail with Error 4956 as opposed to Error 12841 before the fix:

    Msg 4956, Level 16, State 6 Server 'MYASE', Line 5
    Cannot alter table if REORG command or level 0 scans are active.
  • This error can be misleading because there is no REORG command or level 0 scans in progress.
