3217355 - How to manually create a log hole to fix missing log device file problem - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Getting Error 840 with state 2 in ASE errorlog and cannot recover the database. 
      Error: 840, Severity: 17, State: 2
      Device 'tdblog2' (with physical name '/…/XXX/YYY/tdblog2', and virtual device number 12) has not been correctly activated at startup      time.  Please contact a user with System Administrator (SA) role.
  • Log device file tdblog2 is missing, it may have been deleted accidentally.
  • Create an empty file with missing log device file name tdblog2 may workaround 840 error.  However, "dump database" fails with 8009 error. Both ASE and backupserver report ‘dd_read’ error due to new empty log device file tdblog2.
