3219221 - Opportunities: "Please enter a party with role Sales Unit"

Some users get the system message " Please enter a party with role Sales Unit". The same issue can happen in similar way for many objects, in our example we are looking at the Opportunity BO. Note: some objects such as Lead and Opportunity will still let you save/ edit the object despite the message, as they are error-lenient objects.

One way of coming across this issue is to login to the system with the affected user and create an object, such as opportunity. Even before the object is saved, the message would pop-up.

In our example, the employee's master data is not set-up correctly and therefore the determination for the Sales Unit is not happening. Check the Fine Tuning Activity for the relevant BO.

In our example: Opportunities.

The determination of the Sales Unit is not happening for this user because the employee master data is not fully set-up:

You have three active steps for Sales Unit determination, but none of them can be reached/ none get triggered:

10 Responsibility  "Sales Unit for Sales" > this is not set up
20 Functional Organizational Unit of Employee Responsible > if a department is maintained for the employee, then it will take this step - for the example user, no department is maintained on the employee master data. 
30 Organizational Unit from Org Model if only One Suitable Functional Unit Exits > if the user is maintained IN THE org itself as employee (which he is not), AND this is marked as sales unit (which it is), then this step would be picked. However, this is not the case, the user is not maintained under employees in the org, so this step doesn't get triggered either.

As none of the determination steps match, no sales unit is determined for Steffen Kleissler, leaving it blank and triggering the system message.

Either maintain a department for the employee on the employee master data, and/or maintain the employee in the relevant org directly, under the Employees facet.
