3219716 - Serial number Profile Change in S/4HANA Cloud EWM

You aren't able to change the serial number profile of a material on the EWM side. You are receiving one of the errors below when trying to change it on your end:

"Not allowed to delete SN profile &1 as WM has open deliveries or stock." /SCWM/SERIAL 165 

"Not allowed to add SN profile &1 as WM has open deliveries or stock. "/SCWM/SERIAL 165 

"An error occurred when querying stock entries." /SCWM/SERIAL 162

Although SAP does not recommend it, it may be necessary to change the serial number profile of an existing material, therefore manual workarounds are necessary. Once the serial number profile is changed, EWM function modules will check the open documents and existing stock for EWM-relevant storage locations to prevent inconsistency on the EWM side. This is an enhancement from CE2402.

Please be aware that changes to the serial number profile for harmonized serial numbers must be done on the plant level of the materials.

1. When users change an SN profile of a material and whatever attribute is changed, EWM must evaluate if this change is safe. Such change is safe only when:

   -There are no open delivery items of this product and

   -It doesn't conflict with existing stock in the warehouse and

   -there is no open stock in difference analyzer and

   -there is no open physical inventory documents and

   -there is no open production material request of this product (please make sure if there's an item for the product it has to be with completion status as "Completed")

   Note: For stock-conflict (and the open stock in difference analyzer) checking could be skipped if only when the changed the attribute is Serial Number Requirement and its value is changed from "A" to "non-serialized" or visa vise. "A" requires a serial number on document level, it doesn't affect the stock movement in the warehouse. In the Cloud system, the available options for SN requirements are "A" and "C".

2. The next step depends on your needs:
   - The settings for the serial number profile in the configuration activity “Define Serial Number Profiles” can be changed.
   - The current serial number profile can be replaced with a different one in the material master.
   - A serial number profile can be entered for a material that wasn't serialized before in the material master.

If the conditions are matched, the Safeguard feature allows you to make such a change. It also helps customers repair the Serial Number Profile on the WM side. Then the material with the new serial number profile can be used, and when new stock comes for the material, the EWM system will be automatically re-created with the relevant data. Otherwise, it stops you from changing the serial number profile of a material master and you'll receive the error message mentioned above blocking you from doing this change to avoid serial number inconsistency on your system.
