3221513 - Authentication error in SAP PI/PO Mail Adapter when connecting to Microsoft Exchange

Symptom

  • Microsoft has deprecated Basic Authentication when connecting to Outlook 365 server. The following article from Microsoft describes alternative supported method when using Mail Adapter: Deprecation of Basic authentication in Exchange Online.
  • The following error appeared when logging in to the Outlook 365 server: "java.io.IOException: unexpected login response; read 001F NO LOGIN failed".
  • Please note that similar behavior can also occur on Exchange on-premise systems if authentication or protocol restrictions are enforced.
