3221747 - Error 12313 occurs which caused an Internal 'database shutdown' - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • There was an Error 12313 which caused an internal "database shutdown"
  • After few seconds of the internal database shutdown, ASE was trying to recover the DB but if failed.
  • ASE errorlog messages include :

    Error: 12313, Severity: 21, State: 1
    Internal error: Insert into page id 2038 of index id 11 of table 'Table7' (id = 1888006726) in database 'SID' tried to replace undeleted RID (4188,21) at slot 269 and ridposn 0. Try dropping and recreating the index.
    A transaction in database 'SID' (spid=37) has hit a fatal error during rollback. ASE will try to reboot an d recover the database. The XREC_BEGINXACT of this failing transaction is (838803, 129).

    Database SID with dbid 4 is already shut down.
    Error: 2259, Severity: 16, State: 1
    Warning: System process 13 is using the database 'SID', dbid 4 while a database shutdown is being attempted. If the database shutdown is unsuccessful, retry it later.
    Database SID with dbid 4 is already shut down.

  • SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) 16.0 SP03 & SP04
  • Use of  in-row LOB (text) tables
    • This issue is not limited to BOBJ systems only, but appears to be mostly in that environment due to use of in-row LOB for certain BOBJ tables
