3223394 - Error in configuration for account XYZ in General Ledger work center

Symptom

You encounter error message 'Error in configuration for account XYZ'"(XYZ refers to general ledger account) in General Ledger Accounts view.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to General Ledger work center.
  2. Go to General Ledger Account view.
  3. Error 'Error in configuration for account XYZ' occurs.

Cause

The account was deleted from the Chart of Account(COA) already but for some reason, the data wasn't deleted from everywhere it should have been, so some database entries have a record of it. This means it will show up under General Ledger Accounts, for example. As long as there's no actual posting data, the account can be deleted from the COA.

Resolution

The solution is to actually add the account to the COA once again, save it, and then delete it again. Usually, at the second time of asking, it is fully deleted correctly and you'll no longer see it in General Ledger Accounts and you won't get the configuration error message as it just won't be there.

In case the account under issue has some postings, you cannot successfully delete this G/L account. Then the only available option is to change the posting block settings to type 3 - No postings allowed so no further postings are allowed.
