3223907 - Upgrade ASE command failed with error: Command execution failed. : Could not identify ASE version. (fault code: 127) - SAP ASE

Symptom

Run the following command to upgrade ASE

saphostctrl -user sapadm <pwd> -function LiveDatabaseUpdate -dbname <SID> -dbtype syb -updatemethod Execute -updateoption TASK=UPDATE_ASE -updateoption DROP_LOCATION="<path>"

It failed with following error:

Error: Command execution failed. : Could not identify ASE version. (fault code: 127)

SAP Host Agent log dev_sapdbctrl shows following,

[PID 35455182] ERROR AT sybServer.cpp:SybServer::init(bool):28371 TIME: xxx xxx DESCRIPTION: Could not identify ASE version LAST OS-ERROR: (0) : Error 0
[PID 35455182] *** ERROR => 'Database live update' failed: Could not identify ASE version. [sapdbctrl.cp 4211]
sapparam: sapargv(argc, argv) has not been called!
sapparam(1c): No Profile used.
