3225633 - Error: “ISO code is not correct in the VAT registration number” While Trying to Add the VAT Registration Number for a Business Partner

Upon trying to maintain the VAT registration number for the Business Partner, system throws the error:

ISO code is not correct in the VAT registration number

Diagnosis
The first 2 characters of the VAT registration number do not correspond to the country's ISO code.

Procedure
Check the entry.

If necessary, check whether the ISO code of the country has been defined correctly.

Message no. AR191

SAP S/4HANA Cloud

1. Go to the app Manage Supplier Master Data
2. Find and open the Supplier
3. Select the button Edit
4. Go to the tab Identification and navigate to the section Tax Numbers
5. Select the button Create
6. In the Tax Category field, select the value help and choose the required Tax Number Category
7. For example: Tax Category: PT0
8. Key in the respective Tax Number
9. For example: Tax Number : yyyyyyyyy (where yyyyyyyyy represents the Tax Number)
10. Select Save
11. You will receive the error

In the above example, for the Tax Category PT0, you have input only the Tax Number yyyyyyyyy without the prefix of the Country Code PT. Therefore, the first 2 characters of the VAT registration number did not correspond to the country's ISO code.

You may verify the Country-Specific Checks using the below steps: 

1. Go to Manage Your Solution app
2. Select the option Configure Your Solution
3. SSCUI Reference - Define application-independent system settings - 102592 - Set Country-Specific Checks
4. Select Configure
5. Choose the Country to be changed PT – Portugal

Checking rule : 3 - Length to be kept to exactly, without gaps 

While providing the VAT registration number, the first 2 characters should be the ISO country code. In this example if you want to add the VAT Registration Number PT0 the Tax Number will be PTyyyyyyyyy
