3227930 - Fixed Asset number gap when creating new Asset - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

When new Fixed Asset master data is created, the system generates a gap between the last and new Asset number.

Environment

 SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.

Reproducing the Issue

Create new Fixed Asset master data

Cause

The most common reason is, that the "missing" Asset numbers were already created and deleted afterwards, which are not visible in the App Manage Fixed Assets anymore.

SAP Support can confirm it via ticket while checking the table FAAT_MD_ROOT which shows the Asset lifecycle status.

Customer can check by using the app 'Display Change Documents' and setting the 'Change Document Object' to 'Fixed Asset Master Data' to see who made changes to the assets and when.

After running it, filter the 'field name' to 'LIFECYCLE_STATUS' and those with a 'new value' of 2 represent deletions.

Resolution

If this scenario cannot be confirmed internally reach out to SAP Support referring to this KBA to check the table mentioned above.
