3229028 - Error 814 raised by HK WASH followed by undetected deadlock - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • The Housekeeper (HK) Wash process raised error 814 on the last log buffer
  • With ASE error log showing entries including:

    Error: 814, Severity: 20, State: 7
    Keep count of buffer '0x2b9e70750fd0' in cache 'log_cache' holding logical page '251398993' in database 'master' has become negative. 

    with a stack trace including functions:

    bufunkeep_do_decrement
    bufunkeep_cache
    bufdbtlastlog
    log__newpage

    • A full example of log entries is attached in file KBA_3229028_Full_Sequence.txt
  • Which results in an undetected deadlock between the HK WASH process and a user processes.
    • This blocks (many) user processes
