3232988 - A failed upgrade on step "update Server Configuration" XP Server was no longer working– SAP ASE

• During an update to version 16.0.03.12 the system failed on stating:
  Errors occurred during update of server configuration
  
  
• After the issue was discovered, an aftermath was XP server is not working.
• The xp_cmdshell command hangs the isql session:
  xp_cmdshell pwd 
  
  
• Many spids are hanging:
  • Show "314 EXECUTE ESP”
  • Sleeping, “wait for XP Server semaphore”
  • and cannot be killed.
• One spid shows:
  • “354 CREATE ENCRYPTION KEY”
  • Was in infinite loop
  • High cpu time used by current command (in field pss->pcpucur).
• Related errors in the ASE errorlog:
  • Error: 7215, Severity: 18, State: 1
    Can't send to site 'ASENAME_XP'.
  • Error: 3705, Severity: 16, State:
    Cannot use DROP ENCRKEY with ‘TABLENAME’ because ‘TABLENAME’ is a table. Use DROP TABLE.
  • Error: 2946, Severity: 16, State: 15
    Failed to drop service key syb_xpskey.
