3238488 - Truncating a table's partition with off-row LOB data causes an exclusive table lock - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • table with LOB column
  • Table is partitioned with range partitioning on a datetime column
  • 'ptn_locking' attribute is set to '1'
  • A daily job purges old partitions. It does "TRUNCATE TABLE ... PARTITION" and later a "ALTER TABLE ... DROP PARTITION".
  • When running "TRUNCATE TABLE ... PARTITION" command the entire table is locked regardless of the ‘ptn_locking' attribute of the table. An exclusive table lock is observed on the table.
