3241137 - Failed to execute ..., because this is a read-only connection - SAP ASE

After upgrade to ASE 16 SP04 GA and higher, queries are raising following (similar) errors: 

• java.sql.SQLException: Failed to execute COMMIT TRANSACTION, because this is a read-only connection. Read-only connections can only execute SELECT statements. Use 'set readonly off' to execute COMMIT TRANSACTION.
• com.sybase.jdbc3.jdbc.SybSQLException: Failed to execute ROLLBACK TRANSACTION, because this is a read-only connection. Read-only connections can only execute SELECT statements. Use 'set readonly off' to execute ROLLBACK TRANSACTION. 
• com.sybase.jdbc4.jdbc.SybSQLException: Failed to execute DROP PROCEDURE, because this is a read-only connection. Read-only connections can only execute SELECT statements. Use 'set readonly off' to execute DROP PROCEDURE.
