3241379 - How does the approval workflow in SAP Signavio Process Governance work if I change the approval expiration from "Never" to "Fixed Period"

Symptom

I want to test that the "Approval Expiration" feature actually kicks off the approval workflow again after 1 month but I do not want to wait a month. Does this feature work retroactively on previously approved diagrams? Ex. If I approved a diagram 2 months ago but just implemented the approval expiration for 1 month, will that kick off a notification for another approval?

Resolution

The trigger depends on configuration of approval workflows in Process Manager and the approval workflow process in SAP Signavio Process Governance itself. In your workflow process you have to set at least one state with "Reset expiration" option.

Configuration in Process Manager:

Usage in Workflow Accelerator:

If the state was set correctly, and you started approval manually (two months ago), after changing the setting of "Approval Expiration" from "Never" to "Fixed Period" (one month), the system will trigger the re-approval automatically. It might take a few minutes, as the re-approval will be triggered asynchronously.

The information about reset expiration is stored in the revision information.
