3241764 - ASE upgrade with SAP Host Agent failed with rc=255 - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • You are following Note 2800483 to upgrade the ASE server. The upgrade failed with message below:
    Error: Command execution failed. : Installation failed with rc=255. Please check /sybase/<SID>/sapdbctrl-config/sybInst.******.out. (fault code: 127)

    Error: sapdbctrl: Installation failed with rc=255. Please check /sybase/<SID>/sapdbctrl-config/sybInst.******.out.
    Error: saphostcontrol: LiveDatabaseUpdate failed (sapdbctrl exit code = 1)

  • In ASE_Suite.log:
    com.sybase.ia.common.InstallMergeModuleStatus
    Status: FATAL ERROR
    Additional Notes: FATAL ERROR -     class com.sybase.ia.common.InstallMergeModuleStatus FatalInstallException: Adaptive Server Enterprise: FAILED.  
    See log file /sybase/<SID>/log/ase.log for detail.

  • In ase.log:
    Install File: /sybase/<SID>/./ASE-16_0/bin/jsagent
    Status: ERROR
    Additional Notes: ERROR - Flexeraak1: /sybase/<SID>/./ASE-16_0/bin/jsagent (error 26 - Cannot open or remove a file containing a running program.)
