3246066 - Installation Error "Unable to use already installed database software" - SAP ASE for BS

Symptom

  • Install Netweaver 7.52 system on ASE 16.0 database and run into error:

    An error occurred while processing option SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP 7.52 > SAP ASE > System Copy > Target System > Standard System > Based on AS ABAP > Standard System (Last error reported by the step: Assertion failed: Unable to use already installed database software. The installer is supposed to install the database software. Refer to trace file sapinst_dev.log for further information)

  • There was failed installation attempt or system got removed in the same host before
  • Check trace file sapinst_dev.log would see error like:

    TRACE      
    syb_dialog_dbsw_already_installed: registry entry SOFTWARE/SYBASE/Server/<SID> exist
