3247825 - Adding a new employee error: "You have selected a position that becomes inactive" - Employee Central


When adding a new user via "Add New Employee" or "Add New Employee with Fixed Term" following issue happens when selecting a position that will be inactivated in future:

"You have selected a position that becomes inactive on Mm/Dd/YYYY. Please choose another position."

Currently this is by system design, system cannot validate end date of employee during hire even if "Add New Employee with Fixed Term" tool is used.


In case that is needed to hire employee on the specified position then is needed to remove the future record that inactivate the position:

  1. Go to Manage Position/Data
  2. Find/Select desired position
  3. Find the future inactivated record
  4. Click to Permanently Delete or Make Correction and set Position status to Active again.
