You used to use 'Material Group' during MRP runs in On Premise system to narrow down the scope of MRP to certain products and you want to achieve the same in S/4HANA Cloud (S4HC) system. However, the material group is not available currently in S4HC. This KBA will provide a workaround using 'Product Hierarchy', which has been introduced as a successor concept in general.

To use product hierarchy during a MRP run, you should follow the following main steps:
1. Configure IDs and their corresponding descriptions that are used for configuring product hierarchy in SSCUI 103298 - Configure Nodes for Product Hierarchies. The list of nodes that you configure using this SSCUI is available for selection in the Manage Product Hierarchies app.


2.Create and edit hierarchies and assign multiple levels of hierarchy nodes (sub-nodes or products) in app Manage Product Hierarchies. You can also manage the validity timeframes of the hierarchies.


3.Define which product hierarchy should be used in which plant and for which purpose in app Assign Product Hierarchy for Production.
You can use the product hierarchy for different purposes in the following apps:
Purpose 01 Production Planning: Used in the Monitor Material Coverage - Net Segments app
Purpose 02 Production Execution: Used in the Manage Production Orders app

4. Filter materials by product hierarchy with purpose 01 activated in step3 and run MRP for them in app Monitor Material Coverage - Net Segments.

The MRP parameters can be set in the app settings.
