3251992 - STRING/XTRING types not supported by currently selected access method UDCGEN

Symptom

Scenario 1:
 
Adding fields with Data type STRING and activating the datasource fails with the below error:
"Datasource XXXXX ( SIDCLNTXXX ) could not be activated."
 
 
Scenario 2:
 
The below message appears while creating the Datasource from the beginning and adding fields with Data type STRING:

"STRING/XTRING types used not supported by currently selected access method UDCGEN; cannot use this method."
