3252520 - Error message "Problem occurred: Error while executing a database procedure" shows up during an MRP run

Symptom

You schedule an MRP run using app Schedule MRP Runs, however, the run fails with an error message "Problem occurred: Error while executing a database procedure".

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud

Reproducing the Issue

1. Open app Schedule MRP Runs.
2. Schedule an MRP run with proper parameters.
3. After the run finished, the status is "Failed".
4. Open the log, you can find the mentioned error message.

Cause

The root cause of the issue might be:
1. Exhaustion of the number ranges .
2. The current number range status is inconsistent with the purchase requisition number in the system.
3. External number range was used.

Resolution

For the 1st root cause :
The error message can be eliminated with the following 2 steps:
    1. Extend the number ranges e.g. PRs in SSCUI 105616 - Define Number Ranges for Purchase Requisitions/ SSCUI 102439 - Define Number Range for Planned Order.
    2. Assign the extended number ranges on a plant level in SSCUI 102397 - Assign Number Ranges for MRP Run to Plant.

In the meanwhile, you are strongly suggested to run MRPs in planning mode 1, rather than planning mode 3, to avoid the number ranges from being exhausted.

For the 2nd root cause:
In SSCUI 105616, change the "Number Range Status" to a value larger than the largest PR number in the system. You can check this largest number in Manage Purchase Requisitions - Professional app.

For the 3rd root cause:
Assign internal number range to the plant in SSCUI 102397.
