3253015 - Error message 'Commitment cannot exceed total commitment of employee in project' when planning hours in the Availability Calendar

Symptom

When you are trying to add hours in your Availability Calendar you receive an error message 'Commitment cannot exceed total commitment of employee in project' for some projects.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Resource Management work center (alternatively, this work center view can also be accessed through the Project Management work center).
  2. Go to Resource Search view.
  3. Search for the relevant user.
  4. Click on Show Availability button.
  5. Select the relevant line of the Project.
  6. Enter the amount of hours and Hit enter on the keyboard.

See the error message "Commitment cannot exceed total commitment of employee in project".

Cause

The hours inserted in the availability calendar exceed the maximum commitment hours defined for the resource.

Resolution

In order to check the maximum commitment for a given resource, follow the below steps:

  1. Project Management -> Resource Search (alternatively, this work center view can also be accessed through the Resource Management work center).
  2. Select the resource and click on the Maintain Commitments button.

Here you can define how many hours per day the resource is allowed to work for a given project.
