3254671 - Create proxy_table command fails but no error message - SAP ASE

The following command seems to run successfully with no errors:

create proxy_table proxytabname external table at 'aseservername.dbname..tablename'

go

But when trying to select from the proxy table, error 208 is generated :

Msg 208, Level 16, State 1:
Server 'ASESERVERNAME', Line 1:
proxytabname not found. Specify owner.objectname or use sp_help to check whether the object exists (sp_help may produce lots of output).
