3259634 - Search for Sales Orders using Product ID in Basic Search Does Not Work


You are searching for sales orders based in products in basic search but it doesn't bring any results; If you go into advanced search, however, your search of sales orders using Products criteria shows expected results.

Reproducing the Issue

  • Go to the Sales work center.
  • Go to the Sales Orders work center view.
  • In the basic search box, type ABC (where ABC is a Product ID).

You will not see results displayed as per your search.

  • Now open the Advanced Search (filter icon).
  • Type ABC in the Product field.

 You will see results displayed as per your search.


The basic search of sales orders is enabled for following fields:

  • Sales Order ID
  • Name
  • Status
  • Delivery Status
  • Account ID
  • Account Name
  • Ship-to ID
  • Ship-to Name
  • Bill-to Name
  • Owner Name
  • External ID
  • Plant ID
  • Plant Name

The reason why sales order has not provided products in basic search is that when the product ID is searched in basic search the resulting list will not have the product ID field.

If the Product ID would be enabled for basic search, imagine a scenario where product ID contains text "REX"; if the basic search is performed with this text, the list will display all the sales orders which have "REX" in any of the above fields along with product ID. The list will also display the sales orders where this text is not visible (as the products are visible only after opening the sales order in detail view). This result will be confusing to users who are not searching with product ID.

To cater to majority of the users the product ID has not been enabled for basic search.


This is the system current standard behavior.
