3261287 - Procedure cache high usage and job stuck in compiling state - SAP ASE 16.0

Symptom

  • High memory usage in the procedure cache memory pool.
  • Jobs are stuck in compiling state.
  • The "optdiag statistics" output shows a very large number of histogram steps for various columns in table(s) referenced by a related query.
  • Configuration parameter 'number of histogram steps' or 'histogram tuning factor' is set to much higher than the default value (20).
  • The "update statistics" scripts have the option 'using high_step values' to request a high column step count.
