3261317 - ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID while calling AS Java UIs with IP address and HTTPS protocol

Symptom

You want to call AS Java via HTTPS protocol. The affected applcation uses the default SSL certificate of the AS Java. E.g. the application is NetWeaver Administrator (NWA) and you want to call it in one of the links:

  • https://<IP address>:<port>/nwa
  • https://<hostname>:<port>/nwa
  • etc.

HTTPS does not work, however you enabled it as per KBA: 1770585 - How to configure SSL on the AS Java. You also implemented the KBA: 2462126 - AS Java UI not reachable via HTTPS - ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID - Not Secure.

UI drops:

"Not Secure"

and if you check the Security tab in Network trace:

"The page is not secure (broken HTTPS).
Certificate - missing
This site is missing a valid, trusted certificate
(net::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID)."
