3275199 - Error "Transfer Failed" When Trying to Transfer an Employee

Symptom

The error message '"Transfer Failed" is occurring when trying to transfer an employee.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Personnel Administration work center.
  2. Go to Employees view.
  3. Select the employee.
  4. Click Actions button and click Transfer Employee.
  5. Select the transfer date.
  6. Enter Organizational Unit and Job.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Error message "Transfer Failed" is displayed.

Cause

The issue could be caused because Replication has been descoped.

In a Replication scenario, the Administrative Category Code is not a field that is maintained and therefore, never gets sent into SAP Business ByDesign during a Replication Request. However, in standard Business ByDesign system with no replication, this is a Mandatory field during a Hire or Transfer scenario.

Resolution

It is necessary to manually maintain this Administrative Category for each affected Employee, since Replication has been descoped.

This can be done via Regular Tasks -> Change Administrative Category. The change date must be from the current/latest Work Agreement of the required Employee.

After that it should then be possible to Transfer the affected Employee(s).

Please note: There is no way to complete this process massively, each instance will need to be tackled manually using the above process.
